The Internet has become such an integral part of all our lives that many people are online before they have even got out of bed in the morning. With more than 1 billion websites to choose from, picking what online destination to visit first is extremely tough. Thankfully, we’re here to help.
Wakey, Wakey, Rise and Browse
We asked you, What Is The First Website You Check Each Morning?
We had a great response to the question, with dozens of you telling us about your morning browsing habits. Some websites were mentioned several times during the discussion, but most appeared only once, showing how everyone has different ideas on which websites are essential viewing first thing in the morning.
What follows is a list of 25 websites MakeUseOf readers told us they visit every morning without fail. We are obviously not forcing you to visit all, or indeed any, of the websites mentioned below, but you may well find a new favorite website lurking somewhere within the list. And you can then add it to your morning routine, along with drinking coffee and cleaning your teeth.
- Android Police
- TV Tropes
- The New York Times
Having scanned the list above you may have noticed some themes running through it. Search engines, email providers, social networks, and RSS feed readers all feature prominently. None of which is at all surprising. However, we were pleasantly surprised at how many people named MakeUseOf itself as the first website they visit each morning. We are truly honored. Thank you.
Comment Of The Week
We received a lot of great comments, including those from Peter, Xoandre, and Imaduddin Sawal. Comment Of The Week goes to Katie F, who wins a T-shirt chosen from those available through the catalog for this comment:
The first website I check in the morning is Facebook, mainly to see what ridiculous things my friends have been up to the night before whilst I have been tucked up in bed, reading my uni books or watching the IT Crowd… like the boring geek I am. However I have to say that I don’t stay on Facebook that long as I end up clicking on the various news articles and links my friends have posted (although now they open links inside the Facebook app, I guess that isn’t strictly true, I am still on Facebook!)
My next port of call is (through Facebook) to the MakeUseOf articles or giveaways, I am particularly interested in the ones on Linux as this is what my uni course module is currently on and I am also interested in the ones on home automation, buying a new house in the next month is the main influencing factor in this.
We chose this comment because it has several elements we appreciated. First up is the answer to the question, which, in this case, is Facebook. Then there’s the reminder that visiting a social network can lead to us viewing countless other websites linked to by our friends. Finally, there’s the name-check for MakeUseOf, with the Linux and Smart Home sections named as being especially useful. Oh, and calling themselves a geek netted this commenter some bonus points.
We Ask You is a weekly column in which you have your say about a particular subject. We ask you a question each week, with the results compiled and compressed into a follow-up article the following week. This column is nothing without your input, all of which is valued.
