Adobe Lightroom 5 Sees Light Of Day With New Features And A $149 Price Tag [Updates]

Adobe Lightroom 5 has been officially released after 400 tweaks to its earlier freely available public beta version. The bugs are gone and the new improved features are very much in place. You don’t have to pay anything extra to use Adobe Lightroom 5 if you already have a Creative Cloud subscription. But if you are planning to use it as a standalone program for your photo editing needs, you will have to cough up $149 for a new license, and $79 for an upgrade from any version of Lightroom.

Adobe Lightroom 5 is available for both Windows and Mac. If you played around with the beta version, then you know what to expect. If you didn’t, here’s a quick run-down of the enhanced features the new version brings to the table.

Advanced Healing Brush: Unwanted spots and features on your photo can be removed with a brush stroke. The function is similar to Photoshop’s clone tool, but it is easier to implement. A new “Visualize Spots” tool also takes care of sensor spots on photos.

Smart Preview: To speedup workflow and reduce computer overhead, Smart Preview loads a smaller version of the actual file. Changes made in Smart Preview are synced with the linked main photograph.

Upright: The Upright feature removes the need for laborious cropping and straightening of crooked photos. Automatically level horizons or straighten buildings with a single click.

Radial Filter: Focus on specific points in a photograph by creating off-center vignette effects, or multiple vignettes within a single image with radial masks.

Photo sharing is also available via the Behance publish service. This can be used from within standalone Lightroom 5 or the Creative Cloud Bundle.
