Excessive coughing disrupts PNoy’s speech at NGO event

MANILA – President Benigno S. Aquino III on Thursday graced the 25th anniversary celebration and thanksgiving program of the Center for Community Transformation Group of Ministries (CCT) at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Mandaluyong City Thursday evening.

He gave a short speech in front of the CCT trusties, board members, directors, members and its partners, and commended the years of service the group made for the poor. He added that the programs of his administration are aligned with the group’s goals.

However, his speech was not without his signature lapse– his coughing. This time, the audience couldn’t help but notice that his coughing was one of the longest he had.

To suppress his cough, the President had to turn away from the podium, drink water and for several times, cleared his throat.

After around half a minute, he finally cleared his throat and joked about it by saying this is the reason why he is looking forward to the end of his term and went on with his speech.

“In 2015 alone, we saw you helping communities in disaster-struck areas by providing housing assistance to 294 families, loans to 840 fisherfolk, assistance to 2,637 families… 48,096 were covered by your credit association… You have done so much,” Aquino told the audience.

Aquino also praised the group saying that while they in government have realized the challenges in accomplishing programs that aim to alleviate poverty and how difficult it is to remind people of such, their civic work have done so much impact on the lives of the poor.
