The five Gurgaon Police officials accused of staging an encounter to kill gangster Sandeep Gadoli in Mumbai were suspended on May 30, according to a statement from the Gurgaon Police Commissionerate Friday.

The official release, which came a day after the SIT told a Mumbai court that senior officers of Gurgaon Police were not cooperating in the case, also said, “Gurgaon Police has been and would extend all help that may be required under law to the SIT of Mumbai Police in this case.”

The release said Mumbai Police indicated the involvement of some officials of Gurgaon Police Crime Branch for the first time in a status report filed before the Supreme Court on May 27. “This was also the first time that any such information came to the notice of Gurgaon Police. Even though no official intimation has been received in this regard from Mumbai Police… so far, still the 5 officials of Gurgaon Crime Branch were placed under suspension on 30/5/2016, pending the investigation into the said case.”

Gurgaon Police said the crime branch team camped in Mumbai for almost three weeks in February and the evidence sought was handed over to the SIT. “The witnesses of Gurgaon Police who were asked to be examined have also been examined by the SIT, which has also recorded their statements. All the information that was received officially by the DCP Crime, Gurgaon to be communicated to police officials of the Gurgaon Crime Branch was communicated to the concerned officials without any delay and Mumbai Police SIT was kept informed of the same,” stated the release.
