Instagram Releases Major Upgrade To iPhone And Android Apps [Updates]

Instagram fans will be pleased to see and use the new slew of features added to the 3.2 version of the popular camera and photo sharing app for iPhone and Android. Instagram says the new release is the “largest upgrade to our Instagram iOS camera since it was revamped just over a year ago“.

Facebook bought Instagram back in April of this year, and this is the app’s first major update since the acquisition. In addition to the speed and reliability improvements, the new features include a newly designed shutter release button, an optional image guide, a scale & crop tool, and an improved in-app Camera Roll access.

The scale & crop tools are definitely a welcome addition to the camera app, however in order to use the tools you must select a photo in your camera’s camera roll. After you take a shot, you will need to open it from your iPhone’s camera roll if you want to crop it.

All your photos taken with Instagram are saved to your camera roll before they are edited and processed. An improved Camera Roll image selector (for the iPhone 5 only) allows you to review and select a photo without leaving the app’s editing interface.

The app also includes an optional grid guide for live photos and a permanent grid guide for the scale & crop screen. The single new filter includes one called Willow, a monogram filter with a subtle purple tones and a translucent glowing white border.

What do you think of the new Instagram features?
