Internet Explorer 11 Release Preview For Win 7 Is Out, 30% Faster Than Others

After giving Bing a facelift, Microsoft now wants to change how you get to Bing with the new Internet Explorer 11. The Release Preview of the browser — whose Developer Preview surprised us with how mature it has become — is now available as a free download for Windows 7 users and it comes with a few cool features.

Apparently there have been quite a few changes under the hood because Microsoft is claiming some significant leadership over competitors. In an advert for the new browser, the company claims IE11 is six times faster than Google Chrome at rendering 3D animated graphics on the Web. This change is due to the browser incorporating WebGL, which lets it harness the computer’s GPU to render 2D and 3D graphics.

On the standard benchmark test used for comparing browsers — WebKit SunSpider — Internet Explorer 11 Release Preview still scored higher than all the others, displaying pages about 9% faster than IE10 and 30% faster than Firefox 23, Chrome 29 or Opera 16.

IE11 also incorporates Pointer Events, a new standard by Microsoft that will enable developers to build websites that work just as well with a mouse, keyboard, pen and touch. And there are a bunch of other improvements for devs too, which you can read at the full blog post.

The IE11 Release Preview for Windows 7 is a free download, but not yet available for Windows 8. Users on the new OS will have to wait for Windows 8.1 to release on October 18, which packages IE11 as a built-in tool. When you do get the browser, here are some great tips to get the most out of IE11.

It’s the browser you love to hate, but the guys at Redmond sure hope this can turn things around. But do you? Will you switch from Chrome or Firefox to IE11?.
