I’m a very busy person, but at the same time, I’m a very disorganized person. Oddly enough, part of my disorganization actually comes from my tendency to try and stay organized. Why? I have so many different methods of making it happen that it gets very cluttered together!
Fortunately, there’s Orchestra – an iPhone app that gives you an easy-to-read, simple-to-use collaborative to-do list on which you can add a continuous stream of your upcoming tasks.
From voice recognition to group collaboration, the app has it all, and there’s no reason you shouldn’t be adding it to your app library. Let’s take a look at it.
What It Does (And How Well It Does It)
I have been looking forever for a simple to-do list app that doesn’t require me to map out calendars, manage projects, or set up checklists for the to-do lists. With Orchestra, I don’t have to worry about any of the extras. The app only lets you make one continuous to-do list, and for the most disorganized people like me, sometimes that’s just what we need.
The app lets you add tasks to your queue via voice or text input. Personally, I preferred the voice option – it was fun and relatively simple to use. Furthermore, I didn’t have to waste time typing out stuff that would be faster saying. This is ideal for those of you who are on the go or are even driving (which I do a lot).
Furthermore, Orchestra lets you take those tasks and star them based on importance. Got an important lunch with the big boss tomorrow? Don’t let your vocal grocery list get in the way of that – instead, star the meeting, and it will take priority by holding its place at the top of your list. You can also categorize these events by their occurrence using a very generic timeline: Today, Soon, or Someday. Of course, for you nitpickers out there, you can also add the actual date.
As an added note, you can also set up recurring reminders, and for those of you who use email as your to-do list, you can forward messages to firstname.lastname@example.org and automatically add important notes to your queue. Beyond that, the app also lets you collaborate with others by adding them to your contact lists. Do you want your roommate Mike to take out the trash? Put it on his to-do list. With this feature, it’s the perfect way to get what you want by not actually telling anyone what you want! (Kidding. Kind of.)
Clean, No-Nonsense User Interface
You’ll also notice that the app has a very clean red, black, and gray design. This provides the best visibility and makes sure your tasks are what’s important. The user interface is also very well-designed, allowing for all your tasks to be categorized into lists. Yes, this does make things a bit more complicated, but sometimes it’s useful. For instance, you may want a Work list, a Home list, and a Shady Drug Dealer list for all aspects of your life.
The app also allows for notifications whenever someone requests your help with a task or completes a task for you. Going back to the collaborative feature, this is ideal for both homes and businesses. If everyone in your family has smartphones, you can assign everyone a chore, allowing them to check in with you when its done. Likewise, you can handle small menial tasks with Orchestra in the office place (just don’t try to have a board meeting using the app – it would fail miserably).
The Bottom Line
Orchestra does precisely what its name implies – it orchestrates your life as well as your life with other people. It’s the perfect productivity app for our busy-body world, and that’s exactly why we slapped it on our Best Of iPhone Apps List. (Sure, this app is great, but if you want even more, go check that out.)
Will you use Orchestra for your iPhone? Do you believe this app can single-handedly help you with your crazy, technology-fused life?
