Rudiger changes Roma strategy

The injury of Antonio Rudiger hastens Roma's hunt for a new central defender and changes their entire transfer strategy.

The German international ruptured his cruciate ligament in an unfortunate training injury ahead of Euro 2016.

The Giallorossi had only just finished buying him from Stuttgart for €9m and many believed he would be sold for a higher price to another club.

His absence, however, has important effects on Roma's market. As well as opening the doors to alternative transactions that would allow the club to bring in some cash, most prominently the possible sale of Miralem Pjanic to Juventus, it also forces the Lupi to look for a new central defender.

According to Calciomercato.it, Roma now have a renewed interest in Lyon's Samuel Umtiti and Inter's Jeison Murillo.
