Slack Now Supports Voice Chats — Here’s How to Start Using It

When it comes to working with a group of remote coworkers, there’s really nothing better than Slack. We use it at MakeUseOf for all of our communication. Well, actually, we use it for everything except meetings because it didn’t support voice calling… until now.

Slack recently rolled out a beta of its voice calling feature! Because it’s a beta, not all teams will have access to it, and like most new Slack features, a team admin will need to enable it before users can start using it.

To get it up and running, go to this page. Again, you must be an admin to get access to the Admin Settings area.

On the bottom of that screen, you’ll see an option labeled Calls. Click that and then check the box next to “Enable Calls for this team.” Click Save Setting, and calls will begin working on you channel.

When you want to call someone, open a direct message with them and click the Phone symbol on the top of the screen.

Will your Slack team use voice calls, or do you prefer to keep everything in text form? Let us know in the comments!
