Tony Stark For Next Microsoft CEO [We Ask You Results]

Steve Ballmer is on his way out at Microsoft. After 13 years as the leader of the Redmond corporation, he’s stepping down from the role that has made him a legend in his own time. Perhaps not legendary for his ability to lead Microsoft to new heights of popularity and prosperity, but legendary for his public displays of egregious emotion and enthusiasm.

With Ballmer soon to be living out his days sitting atop his estimated $18 billion fortune, Microsoft needs to find a new CEO willing to take Microsoft in a new direction. This person is going to have quite the job on their hands, with a need to maintain Microsoft’s successful elements while waking the innovative, inventive side of the company up from its sleepy slumber. It’s a tough job but someone has to do it.

The Results

We asked you, Who Should Replace Steve Ballmer As Microsoft CEO? We had a fair number of responses to the question, with readers happy to share the name of the person they personally think should take over as the head honcho at Microsoft HQ. Those who didn’t state a name stated an opinion over the style of leader Microsoft should hire next, which turns out to be a kind of anti-Ballmer.

Tony Stark was the suggestion that really resonated with us, but as that’s extremely unlikely –  Stark is a fictional character – we’ll have to settle for the more sensible suggestions instead. In which case Stephen Elop, former CEO of Nokia who is already set to be an Executive Vice President at Microsoft, is put forward as the choice of the MakeUseOf readership.

Other names mentioned include Ray Ozzie, who has already been both Chief Technical Officer and Chief Software Architect at Microsoft; Ray Kurzweil, a futurist and inventor who has a day job as Director of Engineering at Google; and Linus Torvalds, the man who created Windows’ nemesis Linux. All would do a fine job, we’re sure.

Comment Of The Week

We had great input from the likes of likefunbutnot, Doc, and Jacob J, to name just a few. Comment Of The Week goes to On W, who won with this comment:

Tony Stark. He’ll bring innovation and loads of mojos to a dull company like Microsoft.

We know Stark is entirely fictional – he, for the uninitiated among you, being the everyday alter-ego of comic book hero Iron Man who just happens to be a billionaire industrialist and engineer. But we asked you to be creative in your thinking, and this comment certainly fulfilled that criteria.

We will be asking a new question tomorrow, so please join us then. We Ask You is a weekly column dedicated to finding out the opinions of MakeUseOf readers. We ask you a question and you tell us what you think. The question is open-ended and is usually open to debate. Some questions will be purely opinion-based, while others will see you sharing tips and advice, or advocating tools and apps to the MakeUseOf readership. This column is nothing without your input, all of which is valued.
